Jelena Vesic is an independent curator, art critic, and editor who lives and works in Belgrade, Serbia.

Vesic graduated with a degree in art history from the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade in 2003, has attended the curatorial program de Appel in Amsterdam 2004/2005, and is currently a PhD fellow at the University of Arts, Theory of Art and Media in Belgrade. She is the co-editor of Prelom Journal and a member of Prelom Collective [http://www.prelomkolektiv.org].

Vesic’ work is dedicated to the politics of representation in art and visual culture. Her curatorial practice often experiments with frameworks, methodologies, and collaborative aspects of presentation of the art. During her residency at BAC she will examine the notion of the ‘curatorial gesture’ and its relation to authorship.

In 1975 a group formed around the alternative ‘October events’ organised by the Belgrade Students’ Cultural Centre set against the state-managed event “The October Salon”. Lutz Becker was there to document the event.

Vesic has been invited to BAC as part of the program Paths Crossing – a production residency program funded by the Culture Programme of the European Union.
