Petra Bauer / Kim Einarsson, 2009
Petra Bauer
In my work I explore the possibilities of conceptual documentary. I examine how public stories which exist in and about our society are constructed, presented and represented in massmedia. I always start with a private event and then I investigate how it relates and connects with general occurrences in society. It is specifically the
relation between the private event and public history that I am interested in. At BAC, I am working on a collaborative project with curator Kim Einarsson exploring the representation of utopias and other public images in relation to individual political engagement.
Petra Bauer graduated from Malmö Art Academy in 2003. Her work has been exhibited widely, including exhibitions at institutions such as Van Abbe Museum Amsterdam, Bard College Annandale-on-Hudson New York , Frankfurter Kunstverein, CAC Vilnius, Kunsthalle Nurnberg, Stadtgalerie Kiel, Casino Luxemburg and Tallinn Art Hall.
Kim Einarsson
In an email dated 31 March 2008 curator Kim Einarsson asks artist collaboration Goldin+Senneby to write her bio for her. Is this request an attempt at challenging institutionalized power structures and questions of representation in the relation artist – curator? Or merely a test to see whether G+S – known for outsourcing all of their production – can actually write a text by themselves?
In her curatorial practice Kim Einarsson constantly questions the modes of operating and organizing art production and dissemination. Beyond pointing at the glaring inconsistencies between political rhetoric in the programming of certain art institutions and the hierarchical reality of their organizations she attempts to think and act anew the relationships to fellow producers. Drawn to research intensive and performative art practices Kim Einarsson seamlessly moves between acting within the artistic oeuvre, interrogating it from without and co-conceiving modes of going public. Having worked for Swedish art institutions, such as Swedish Travelling Exhibtions, Tensta Konsthall, IASPIS, and most recently as acting curator of Marabouparken, she is presently operating as a freelance curator based in Berlin. – Goldin + Senneby
